Follow Friday 2/25/11

This week's question from Parajunkee:

"Share your current fav television show! Tell us a bit about it..."

Well, right now me and my bf are watching seasons 5 and 6 of the Biggest Loser Australia. It's similar to the US version but it's more like the Biggest Loser meets Survivor with cooler, more down to earth people. And I like the trainers better, too!

Tell me if you're a new follower so I can follow back! Have a great weekend!

Review: Bloodfever by Karen Moning

Title: Bloodfever
Series: #2 of the Fever series
Author: Karen Marie Moning
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal
Buy it from Amazon: Bloodfever

Synopsis from Goodreads
"I used to think my sister and I were just two nice southern girls who'd get married in a few years and settle down to a quiet life. Then I discovered that Alina and I descend, not from good wholesome southern stock, but from an ancient Celtic bloodline of powerful sidhe-seers, people who can see the Fae. Not only can I see the terrifying otherworldly race, but I can sense the sacred Fae relics that hold the deadliest of their magic. When my sister was found dead in a trash-filled alley in Dublin, I came over to get answers. Now all I want is revenge. And after everything I've learned about myself, I know I have the power to get it....
MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.
In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh-a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.
For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them...."
My Thoughts:

(I have tried to leave out spoilers!)

Yet another great installment in the Fever Series!

MacKayla Lane is still in Dublin on the hunt for her sister's murderer, and she's more determined than ever now that she know who he is. We find out more about Fae in this one, and a little bit more about what it means to be a sidhe-seer, a person who is able to see fae under their glamour, and null, one who is able to sense Seelie and Unseelie relics among other things. She still works as Barrons OOP (object of power) detector and together they search for the Sinsar Dubh, an Unseelie relic capable of destroying the world, which her murdered sister, Alina, said to find in her dying message.

I loved this book, but I was a little disappointed there wasn't more action and we still don't know anything more about Barrons. I want to know what happens, damn it! Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying this series, I'm just getting impatient and want to know what happens. I might just be a little mad at myself because I don't have the third book yet. :( I'm going to go order it right now.

I would recommend this but only for adults!

My favorite quotes:
"Life is not black and white. The closest we ever get to either of those colors is wearing them."
  And..
"Question: When you're one of the few people who can do something to fix a problem, just how responsible does that make you for it?
Answer: It's how you chose to answer that question that defines you."

Teaser Tuesday 2/22/11

"Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share (2) two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

My tease this week is from Love, Unexpectedly
by Susan Fox:

Page 48:
"He must think it unusual for a woman to have a male best friend, but it was the truth. A truth I'd never actually told Nav. It seemed kind of pathetic that an outgoing woman of my age had never had a friend I felt as close to as I did him."

Follow Friday Part 5! 2/18/11 & Update

This week's question from Parajunkee:

"If you are a fan of Science Fiction what is your favorite book? If you haven't read Science Fiction before...any inkling to? Anything catch your eye?"

I haven't read any Science Fiction, but I would be open to reading some.

Ok, I really need to get some reviews up. My TBR pile is getting a little overwhelming, and there seems to be a million more books I want to buy. My 26th birthday is next Wednesday, the 23rd, and I got an Amazon gift card! Yay! I already have like 10 more books in my cart. *sigh* I wish I could read faster and I wish I had more time to read! Oh well, what can ya do?!? I'm reading 2 books at this time, so I should have a couple a reviews up in a few days!

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Me? I'll be working. Boo

My tease this week is from Bloodfever: The Fever Series (A Mackayla Lane Novel)
by Karen Marie Moning:

Page 69:
"Inside was a Mac I'd never met before. I couldn't dress her up. I couldn't make her take a bath. She wouldn't mix in pleasant society. I couldn't corral a single one of her thoughts. My only hope was she wouldn't suddenly sprout a mouth. She was a bloodthirsty, primitive little savage."

Review: Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

Title: Darkfever (Fever series, book 1)
Author: Karen Marie Moning
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal
Buy it from Amazon

Synopsis from Goodreads
"MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands…."

My Thoughts:

Wow! I LOVED this book! I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'm going to keep this brief. This book is awesome! I don't know why I didn't start this series sooner. Ms. Moning is very good at getting you to believe you're in the world she's creating. I love MacKayla Lane. She's fierce and feisty, and the transformation of MacKayla before her sister's murder and after is really quite dramatic. The relationship between MacKayla and Jericho is very entertaining and kept even the uneventful parts interesting. I can't wait to see what happens between them in the books to come.

I'm going to start reading Bloodfever right now!

My tease this week is from Darkfever (Fever Series, Book 1) by Karen Marie Moning:

 Page 147:
"As I slipped into my clothes, I remembered how Alina and I used to make fun of vampire movies and novels, and of the whole paranormal craze in generalthat had been launched by the creation of one small, pale, bespectacled boy who lived beneath the stairs.

That was before I knew there really were things out there in the night."

I am LOVING this book, by the way!

Review: Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris

Title: Dead to the World (Southern Vampire Series #4)
Author: Charlaine Harris
Genre: Mystery, Urban Fantasy ,Paranormal Romance
Buy it from Amazon.com: Dead to the World

Synopsis from Good Reads
"When cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse sees a naked man on the side of the road, she doesn't just drive on by. Turns out the poor thing hasn't a clue who he is, but Sookie does. It's Eric the vampire--but now he's a kinder, gentler Eric. And a scared Eric, because whoever took his memory now wants his life."

My Thoughts

It's the new year in Bon Temp and all hell is breaking loose. A group of vampire blood drinking, werewolf witches are in town and they're out to take over and reek havoc on the area supernaturals. Somehow, as usual, Sookie gets mixed up in all of the chaos. Her brother, Jason, has gone missing, and she thinks that the new evil witches are responsible for his disappearance. As she searches for Jason she discovers through each supernatural group there is something horrible being done to all of them by the evil witches, and the result is an all out supe war.

This was the third time I've read this book, if that gives any indication of how much I love it! Bill is out of the country (thank goodness! I hate Bill!), and we get to meet Claudine, one of my favorite characters in the series. And of course, who doesn't want Sookie to end up with Eric? Dead to the World is undoubtedly in my opinion the best in the series and who knows? Maybe some day I'll end up reading it a fourth time. ;)

Yup, another challenge. I'm probably getting in over my head this year, but I'm hoping it'll motivate me to read more.
